A History of Innovation at Forsyth Real Estate

In October, Forsyth Real Estate celebrates 117 years in business, providing real estate services to the North Shore and Sydney-wide community from its Willoughby offices since 1898.  Still owned by the Forsyth family, the company is headed up by Directors James Snodgrass and Margaret Forsyth-Snodgrass.  The Forsyth family has lived in Willoughby since 1869, with numerous streets named after them and their houses, and have played a key role in the development of the municipality and the real estate profession.

While Forsyth Real Estate is proud of its history and long-standing reputation, the key to the company’s long-term success is that it has always been an industry leader in marketing, technology and professionalism.

In 1898, Forsyth’s founder RT Forsyth was one of the first people in the area to have a telephone (number Chatswood 145);  in 1912 he bought one of the first cars in the district; Forsyth auctioned many of the early subdivisions in the area; and in 1921, as Mayor of Willoughby, he brought the first electric light to the municipality.  In 1910  the company was an early member of the Real Estate Auctioneers & Agents Association– now the Real Estate Institute of NSW – and has continuously been involved with the industry’s professional associations.

Forsyth was one of the first companies to initiate computerised property management systems, has embraced internet and social media marketing and recognised the globalisation of property sales as the first Australian real estate agency to accept the international Bitcoin currency.  Always looking to showcase client properties to the right marketplace, in the most effective way, Forsyth has recently become a key contributor to cafe lifestyle magazine “Property Pantry”. Available across the North Shore and Northern Beaches, this beautifully-presented magazine gives a glimpse into local businesses, lifestyle trends and, of course, real estate.

At the core of any successful and established company are its people.  Forsyth has a history of top results and suburb records and is actively seeking enthusiastic and motivated real estate professionals to continue to build the company into the future.
